In the background of the 1990s Indian economic crisis, the governor followed Raman, a reluctant bureaucrat who was suddenly appointed RBI governor when the country was on the verge of bankruptcy. When inflation increased, the fuel was running low, and the panic spread, Raman had to overcome the political pressure and the system collapsed to prevent his country from falling apart.
